Physiotherapists, other professionals, people with Parkinson’s and their carers can join the APPDE to help it pursue its mission and fulfil its aims. There are various categories of membership.
A person is eligible for full membership if they live and/or work in any country which is a member of the European Union, geographically part of Europe or which is or becomes a member of the European Parkinson’s Disease Association. At the present time people from the following countries are eligible to join:
At all times 60% of the membership must be qualified physiotherapists. People wanting to join as physiotherapist must be fully qualified and registered to work as such in one of the above countries. They must be able to give their registration number as proof of a recognised national physiotherapy qualification.
This category is open to other professionals, people with Parkinson’s and their carers.
This category is normally for physiotherapists with a recognised qualification working in the same department or unit where 4 or more people want to join. Non-physiotherapists may also join in this category. However, they should note, that if the result of their joining under this category is that the percentage of physiotherapists in the Association falls below 60%, they will not have a vote until the percentage increases again.
Membership categories 1A, 1B and Unit all have full voting rights. The Board of the APPDE is elected by full members at the AGM.
A person is eligible for student membership if they are studying physiotherapy at undergraduate level in a European country. They do not have the right to attend any meetings although they may be invited to do so. They do not have any voting rights. They are entitled to receive copies of articles and papers published by the Association.
This category is for interested organisations within the geographical area stated above. Organisations do not have a vote but are able to send representatives to work with the APPDE board and also to attend the Annual General Meeting.
The category is for individuals, wherever they live or work, who wish to be kept up to date about the work of the Association. They do not have the right to attend any meetings although they may be invited to do so. They do not have any voting rights. They are entitled to receive copies of articles and papers published by the Association.
